Subject: World's Fair tale of two reefers (DL&W)
"DLW_7268_reefer_at_the_1940_World_s_Fair.jpg" - image/jpeg, 2677x1233 (24bit)

There were different reefers at the two Fairs, and LRX is an MDT reporting mark. The 1939 is in MDT's standard yellow scheme with brown ends. The 7268 was at the 1940 Fair and that's the one I was thinking may have been orange. Someday will check with MDT authoritys on the eras of the scheme, but I kinda recall that both colors comingle for years. DL&W's reefers in the white MDT scheme hung around into ice service, as Chuck's own photos confirmed.

Let's see if these images take from my aol account, but here are the two reefers from the two fairs. Note that on both cars the shop date is 4-30, 1939 and 1940, both painted at Keyser Valley. The 1939 is from a contact print in an uncredited collection I bought ca. 2002 (Bob's Photos has the negative) and the 7268 is from an old Rail Photo Service print.

The reefer definitely was yellow and lettered for Lackawanna Refrigerator
Line. DL&W at one time had white reefers and I don't think the orange came
until after WW2 when they got hooked up with MDT. There were stairs up to
the open doors of the ref car and the interior was beautiful varnished wood.
