Train Order Signal Canaseraga, NY ERIE-EL
David Monte Verde photo Dec 1974

EL 338 at Canaseraga

Forgot to mention that this signal at Canaseraga was for the center siding
that y'ed into the eastbound and westbound mains at both ends. I only saw it
used once, if the signal was set to stop, the train crew would get off and
call the dispatcher, the depot was off to my right and there was a phone box
on the outside wall.

The siding lasted into Conrail and was stuffed with bad order cars into the
late 70's, I do not know when Conrail removed it.

In 1961 or 2 the EL had a huge wreck at this point and for a couple of days
the EL Buffalo Division freights were back on the Lackawanna up over
Dansville Hill.

Further east from this point as the Erie Buffalo Div approached Cass Street
Hornell-junction with the old main Alleghany Div. there was a train order
signal west of Cass Street- labeled "VN"; I presume to get yarding
instructions for Hornell Yard?
