"Caldwell_Branch_1.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1344x1350 (256c)

In my freshman year of college, my roommate came from Verona and one weekend
I made a visit to his home. I quickly requested a trip to the station and
off we went by foot, neither of us yet driving. Given that it was a Saturday
morning, I had little expectation of seeing a train but luck was on my side.

After a short wait, a freight came along headed to Essex Fells with 29 cars
and the 1241 for power (at 10:02 AM). We walked the tracks to Cedar Grove
and saw the job return, this time with 5 cars and the hack leading, engine
pushing (at 10:41).

These shots were taken with a Kodak Brownie which I had some trouble with
that day; you can see the effects of double exposure in the sky of the
station shot. The freight was shot in Verona but I'm not sure if I was east
or west of the station. The date was April 9, 1960.

One other detail that is a little hazy is that I seem to remember that the
station agent was on duty and that my roommate actually knew him and chatted
with him. That might be the agent's car showing in the shot of the station.

My latest preoccupation is scanning my oldies and I was pleasantly surprised
to see how these negatives had held up even though a few flaws are evident.
