Subject: Service on the Northern Branch
"No_Br_Apr_1946_31_pg2.jpg" - image/jpeg, 362x570 (24bit)

Ray Wetzel commented that by 1951, (Erie ETT #42) service on the Northern
Branch to Nyack had been cut to just one eastbound train. This was Train
#1104, departing Nyack at 7:42 AM. There were still three westbound trains
to Nyack.

Ray I have that ETT and my copy shows three eastbound trains. I see 1104 on
page 90 but on the previous pages it shows 1100 on page 88 and 1102 on page
89. I don't have a scan of ETT 42 but I do have scans of ETT 31 (April
1946) and 50 (October 1955) and I am attaching page images.

Both show three eastbound trains, all running on about the same schedule
from Nyack as in ETT #42. The major difference is, in 1946 all three
eastbounds ran on Saturdays, by 1951, and in 1955, only the first two
trains still ran on Saturdays. I don't have every year but by 1959 (ETT
#59) Northern Branch trains no longer operated on Saturdays.

The other thing I noticed was, the train numbers changing. In the 1946 ETT
the eastbound trains are numbered 1106-1110-1114. I think those are
probably the original numbers from before the major service reduction. By
1955 they have been renumbered 1100-1102-1104. The following year they were
renumbered again, into the 1200 series. The move to Hoboken had not yet
begun but maybe that was preparing for it? Did Lackawanna have trains in
the 1100 series?
