Subject: DB draw revisited
"3640+3649_DB_Draw-Train_CS-9_-_Kearny_NJ_-_5-72_-_PRT_coll_1264.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1320x882 (24bit)

Our family took the train into New York City on Saturday to see a Broadway
show. On the way home, I quickly used our point-and-shoot digital camera to
grab some (arguably lousy) shots of DB drawbridge in Kearny, NY. It's in the
open position for the foreseeable future (the moribund lower Boonton Line is
the reason why). You can see the swing span and the deck girder approaches
on the west (left) side. In IMG_8181, you can see the original DB tower at
the far left (gray-painted structure with peaked roof), as well as the later
DB operator's station (the small white shack just at the beginning of the
approach spans).

I was too late to grab a photo of the approach trans on the east side, but
they have weeds growing up between the ties. It's a rather sad sight.

I've also attached a photo from my collection showing freight CS-9 starting
its westbound journey in May 1972 - it has just begun to cross the eastern
approach spans at DB (note the NJ Turnpike overpass in the distance, the
same one you can see in my current-day shots). Which scene do YOU like
better? :)
