"Good morning gents, I've just received the latest issue of the diamond, and in it is an article by William E. Botkin about modifying the Atlas Lackawanna H 16-44 to make it look like the correct Lackawanna prototype. Outside of the parts supplied by Atlas what other minor modifications are required. And are these modifications easy to do."

In response, yes there is one additional detail that is quite easy to make to replicate the as-delivered version. The short handrail on the fireman's side (long hood forward), can be added using an existing Atlas part. The Atlas part is the handrail set and you just clip off the un-needed section, paint it, drill the holes and glue in place. Posted is a photo of the results on one of my units.

The other change to make it more accurate, which I have not done, would be to remove the curved filets at the base of the cab. The DL&W units had straight cab sides.
