Subject: Block Line EL content - November 1973
"EL_tonnage_ratings_westbound-1968-Tri-State_Chapter_NRHS.jpg" - image/jpeg, 2044x2630 (256c)

Now it's November 1973, and there are lots of neat notes this month in the Block Line about the "reincarnation" of the DL&W side of
the railroad. There's a note about the single tracking of the Graham Line, and the CNJ caboose that went to Boonton. Lastly, I've
scanned and attached the EL tonnage ratings of divisions (a LOT easier than typing!)

NOV 73

REINCARNATION CONTINUED: In an effort to keep all of you up-to-date on the ever increasing number of trains rolling through DOVER,
we are supplying you with a list of helpful tips to coincide with the FREIGHT SCHEDULE which you received last month. Sorry that we
could not include them last month. Since so many freight schedules have so many (ifs) and (sometimes) attached to them, the
following notes may be helpful. I'm sorry to say that the EL seems to be on a dual schedule these days - the one they put on paper
and the one they operate.

1. BS4 runs in two sections approximately three times per week. 1st section is solid Auto Racks.
2. Mt. Pocono Auto job from Scranton to Mt. Pocono runs five days per week (Mon-Fri) and often on Saturday and/or Sunday. Job
called Pocono Summit. Often called Portland-Summit, so if time permits, can make a run to Portland.
3. East Local based at East Stroudsburg works five days per week (Mon-Fri) Stroudsburg area and to Portland. On duty 3:30 P.M.
Power is usually one C424.
4. Coal trains to Portland from:
a. Northumberland Br.
b. P&S RR at Brockway via Brockway, Salamanca and main line
Trains run as received. Empties return via same route as a sold train or mixed into other regular scheduled trains.
5. Coal trains from Scranton to Binghamton run as received.
6. Ore trains from Scranton off the Northumberland Br. Running west as received.
7. SCX often runs late in the morning.
8. The ordinary differs from the schedules you received last month in that it is usually on duty around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday -
Sunday.
9. If not on your last month's schedule, TC4 runs one hours ahead of NY98.
10. SC8, CS9, SCX are questionable on weekends when tonnage does not merit them.
11. NE100 and NE99 are still running on an experimental basis.
12. Drills working the Bangor and Portland Br. Work out of Bangor. On duty 5:00 a.m. C424, MUed. Summers often see special
fifty car (five units) coal trains traveling the length of the B&P. Usually on weekends when extra crews are available.
13. NY100 should show on the schedule at 2:45 at Port Morris and 4:15 at Croxton.
14. Drills working out of Dover. (Power - GP7s)
- 1st Dover. On duty 8:00 a.m. works west to Netcong five days a week, Monday-Friday
- 1st Boonton. On duty 11:00 a.m. Works east to Boonton Monday thru Saturday.
- Old Road. On duty 7:30 p.m. Works east to Boonton and Madison. Sunday-Friday.
15. P-Burger. On duty at Phillipsburg at 8:00 a.m. Works Phillipsburg line to Port Morris and returns. Arrives Port Morris
between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (Monday-Saturday)

Given any particular weekday with a coal train and a Pocono Summit twin working, and the old DL&W side definitely starts to look
like the road it once was. Something I never would have dreamed would ever happen again. Too bad all the track is not still around
so it could be run like it once was.

(EL) The Graham Line is now completely single track from Howells Jct. to Central Valley, which is only about two miles above
Newburgh Jct. Port Jervis will be completely shut down when the EL finally completes its transfer of freights. Confirmation on the
other abundant rumors which are circulating in regard to the Erie will be made in future Block Line issues. Any information with
good merit on this topic will be greatly appreciated. The Port Jervis hook and wreck train has been moved to Scranton.

Ex-CNJ caboose #91267, which has been sitting on an industrial spur east of Boonton, will eventually wind up along the tracks in
Boonton. It will be part of a new shopping plaza along the tracks. Many of the buildings will be of RR rolling stock. (Bob Scuorzo)
