"port-morris.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1185x283 (24bit)

Hi folks,

I promised this a while ago, but I only recently found the time to
actually annotate and post this. Attached please find my CAD drawing for
the Port Morris area on my planned HO layout (timeframe is
mid-to-late-1975). This will be the first "complete" area once I start
construction in a few weeks. I'm starting at the west end and working my
way east. To the left of this drawing will be a 12-track staging yard
for "Cut-Off" trains, as well as a single staging track for
Phillipsburg.

I've tried to replicate the trackage as closely as possible, at least
from a operational standpoint. On a 2-foot shelf, there's no room for
the Port Morris Wye, so I had to compromised by simply allowing trains
to enter the yard directly at West Port Morris (the series of switched
on the left side). The only difference here is that trains dropping off
on the west end will be putting the cars in 180-degrees turned around
from the prototype - something I don't see as being a problem. The two
yard tracks are are 7' and 5-1/2' long, respectively, which gives me a
capacity of roughly 17 50' cars. The yard will be fairly fluid, with
certain eastbound and westbound trains making setouts, and the Dover
Drill retrieving cars. And let's not forget the P'burger that will come
out of staging, exchange cars here, and return.

The curved crossover at the right is fairly true-to-prototype. Trains
heading towards the Old Road would cross over here then switch off right
before the signal bridge.

The far right lower end will begin with the Landing Road overpass and
enter Lake Hopatcong station. This area will actually be on a drop-down
portion so I can retain access to my cellar door exit :)

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks,

- Paul
