Subject: Great photos of the Drew Chemical switcher!

Of interest to DL&W and northern NJ EL fans are these two photos from
the Steven Hepler collection. They show the E. F. Drew & Company (one of
the DL&W's largest customers) Plymouth switcher moving around just
outside of the plant grounds on August 9, 1964.

The first photo shows a crewman riding the footboards. In the
background, the tall building is the Boonton Feed Mill (surprisingly,
still there and a very popular auction house) - you can see a boxcar
spotted there. Further back is a structure on the property of Harry
Charlton & Co., a coal dealer. The trees in the background camoflage the
ramp leading onto the Wootton St. bridge.

The second photo, looking the other way, shows the diminutive unit
shoving at least 2 boxcars (including a classic DL&W "Phoebe Snow" car.
Part of the Drew plant appears in the background - the building seen
here was one of the last two buildings to be torn down a year ago.
What's that big "spike barrel" looking thing on the back wall of the
cab?

The unit was sold not too long after this photo was taken to the Morris
County Central Railroad tourist operation in Whippany, NJ. It moved with
the operation to Newfoundland, NJ on the NYS&W. Today, the unit is owned
by the NYS&WT&HS and is used as their shop switcher in Butler, NJ.

But here were the unit's humble beginnings. :)
