That is the Rockaway Road crossing looking north. On the railroad it was knownas
East Dover. Very interesting and busy place.

From the photographer, the first crossing is the two-track lead for the carshops
and coal storage yard at East Dover, which today is where Jan Packaging
islocated. Notice it is behind East Dover Tower. The switch off of the main
isfurther east around the curve.

The next crossing is the main line. Then the road bridge over the RockawayRiver.
Then, upgrade to East Blackwell Street and the "Dead Man's Curve," sonamed for
for an accident with the Morris County Traction company; thetrolley tracks
were in when this photo was taken and the accident that led tothe name was
reported in a 1905 or so Iron Era newspaper. The roadway is on afill to gain
elevation over CNJ's High Bridge Branch, today's Dover & Rockaway, and then the
Morris Canal.

Great area, and there are more pictures in this series likely coming soon.

Rather than Salem Street, the last one looks like Rockaway Road
lookingnorth, with the bridge over the Rockaway River, then Blackwell Street on
thegradegoing down to the left. The Jersey Central's like to Rockaway and
theMorrisCanal are in cuts beyond Blackwell Street that can't be seen. The
houseon thehill to the left is probably still there.

This is actually in Rockaway Township, a bit east of the Lakeland
Busgarage, formerly the Morris County Traction trolley barn.

I see a tower at on the left, and wonder about the track in front of
thegradecrossing gates.
