Subject: (erielack) More EL bay-window cabooses from Athearn...
"MeadvillePA_1973_JMayer_list.jpg" - image/jpeg, 700x467 (24bit)

Here is a photo from Meadville in the Summer of 1973 from the route 19
overpass (one of my earliest train photos- I was all of 14). Looking down
on this foursome of cabeese, it begs the question of whether it is worth
debating the roof color. With "appropriate weathering", you can barely tell
they were red, let alone the color of the roof. But I will say that the
last caboose in line was a bit cleaner, and it appears to have had a black
roof.

Also included is a photo of an Athearn BW caboose I built in 1983. First, I
think it's not a bad first effort at kitbashing, and shows that a decent
Erie model can be built from the Athearn kit, if you are willing to spend
the time. (Note- I haven't built another.) Also of interest is that I
originally painted it with a red roof, then later had to correct that! And
before you ask about the color, I intentionally toned down and darkened the
red to add some years to the paint job, as I am interested in 1964.

Enjoy,
Joe Mayer
