Vince Milliken found some shots on ebay of a wreck on the DL&W showing a
Hudson over the bank, and asked where it was. It's just so that it matched 5
photos that I had in my collection that as my bad memory serves me were
taken by a newspaper photographer. Here for your viewing pleasure are all of
mine and the ebay photos, in two transmittals.

This wreck was on the DL&W at DANSVILLE NY in November 14, 1939, just east
of the Route NY256 underpass, west of the depot. It was #8 The New Yorker,
with NKP sleeper and coach, a flag stop at Dansville. My Dad told me the
story that Uncle Sammy was outside and came in the depot and said here comes
# 8, everyone came out and looked down the tracks and there wasn't any
headlight. A westbound freight had derailed and #8's Hudson #1155 hit the
derailed cars and they knocked it over the bank. Engineer escaped with a
broken arm and fireman was bumped and bruised, must have been one heck of a
ride. Here's a photo copy of a passage from a limitedly produced local
history book, PUTTING DANSVILLE ON THE RAILOAD MAP Sam Amico was my Uncle

Directly under the hook, the sand dome has the engine number on it. Last 2
digits are 55, possibly 155. In case that helps.

Anyone know where this wreck was?
