Subject: Photos of Croxton coaling facilities
"CroxtonSteam06241951email.jpg" - image/jpeg, 272104 bytes, 1600x970 (24bit)

Paul Tupaczewski put out a request a few weeks ago for photos of the Croxton
coaling station and facilities. Evidently, there are very few photos
available and none so far have turned up that are specifically of the
coaling station itself with views of the actual loading shoots at engine
level. Those found at least show enough from one primary angle to give a
good sense of the station's form and structure:

P. 27 of The Erie RR Story by Paul Carleton has a photo of the two-tier
conveyor and one coal tower with a decent enough view of the loading area at
ground.

Pp 26 and 27 of Erie RR in Color by David Sweetland. 3 shots show what is
probably a steam generating plant, the conveyor, and the same coaling tower.
Engines block much of the view of the structures.

I attach two shots I found in my files, negatives only on 120 b&w film. I
had them scanned. They are from an Erie fantrip I took with my dad on June
24, 1951, which was a round-trip to Scranton via Port Jervis (a K-5 to the
Port, I believe). We stopped at Croxton for photos and atmosphere. The shots
were taken by my dad on his Kodak bellows folding camera. Locomotives also
block some of the lower parts of the structures but it is at least evident
that there were three very large, adjoining coaling towers, all serviced by
that one big conveyor.

If any other pictures are found that render the Croxton coaling facilitiy in
more detail or from different angles, please share them or the reference.
Thanks.

Joe
