Subject: Buffalo & Southwestern suburban stations
"Buff_James_092422_Cover.jpg" - image/jpeg, 600x510 (24bit)

I enjoyed seeing the photos of the Hamburg and Collins NY stations among
the photos Pat posted yesterday. I don't think I ever saw photos of them
before. The two stations may seem fairly big for wayside stations but this
was one of the lines where Erie operated a suburban passenger service with
commuter traffic. The commuter service ended in Sept. 1938. I'm attaching a
news article that appeared in the Buffalo Courier-Express on Sept. 25,
1938, the day after the last commuter train ran. I'm also attaching a news
photo from the article showing the crew. I first saw this article in an
Erie employee magazine (Nov. 1938 issue) and was delighted to find a
digital copy on the Fulton history site.

I'm also attaching the cover and train listings for the B&SW
(Buffalo-Jamestown) from Sept. 1924 when the service was at its peak. Also
a schedule from the Sept. 1937 Official Guide, closest I have to the final
runs, and one from the Dec. 1940 Guide showing the remaining round trip.
After the commuter service ended Erie continued to run one-train-each-way
between Buffalo and Jamestown via the B&SW. True to the mysterious ways of
the railroad, the evening train out of Buffalo would have been ideal for
commuters except...the morning train didn't arrive in Buffalo until
10:55AM!

I also note both the news article and the two Official Guide schedules show
the trains arriving/departing the Lehigh Valley station in Buffalo.
