List,

For those of you in the Western New York area, the WNYRHS public meeting is Thursday, May 15th at 7:30pm at the Masonic Community Center, 2379 Union Rd, Cheektowaga, near French Rd. Here's the Newsletter notice:

"On Memorial Day, the City of Buffalo will celebrate the opening of the historic Commercial Slip in Buffalo's Inner Harbor. In recognition of this event, Ron Dukarm will present our May program, "The D.L.&W. Railroad's Battle for Buffalo's Inner Harbor". Ron has assembled a program chronicling the Lackawanna Railroad's take-over of the Inner Harbor, starting in 1879 and tracing its development up to World War One. You will see the D.L.&W.'s first coal trestle at the mouth of the Buffalo River, served by the New York Central before the Lackawanna built its tracks to Buffalo. The story includes its battles with the U.S. Government, and the three seizures of the trestle by U.S. Troops. The Lackawanna also seized government and private property in the dead of night and laid its tracks. This story is told in over 170 photographs, most never before seen by the public. Ron walks you block by block along the Inner Harbor, and illustrates the tour with maps and aerial views. You will see Buffalo's waterfront as it looked 125 years ago. To conclude, Ron takes us on a tour of the Black Rock Branch in 1910. See the Lackawanna cross Genesee St, Delevan Ave and Delaware Ave, at grade. See Colvin Ave. when it was a dirt road. This is one program you won't want to miss."
