After yesterday's manic "Conrail's first day" news dump, today's is relatively quiet.... Yet another schedule update (also
attached), a nice comparison of pre-/post-CR train symbols, power renumberings, and other minor items...

JUN 76

THE WORD HERE IS QUIET. This thought was emphasized at the last Chapter meeting, and from the dropoff in news material arriving
daily, I would have to say that it still holds true. The most dynamic happenings involve power mix-and-matches that are occurring on
a daily basis, and are making life interesting for local E-L fans. Smaller Geeps (30's, 35's, 38's) seem to be the fare, with a good
mix of E-L, RDG, and, unfortunately, primarily PC units. The worst of it is that the PC units almost always lead, probably because
of the cab-signal equipment necessary on the ex-NYC mainline. Thus, if 161.40 on your scanner has been just about dead, you now know
why, and your best investment at this time would be a pair of ex-PC crystals (160.80 ex-NYC; 161.07 ex-PRR) to find out what's going
on. All towers and dispatcher's offices are so equipped.

NEW FREIGHT SCHEDULE. Frank Tatnall of the Philadelphia Chapter sent the enclosed update on the timetable for ex-EL territory.
Revised May 15th, it shows major differences in times on both sides. [ATTACHMENT] But, as we always warn about freight schedules.
don't make book!

13 U36-C to 6587-6599
(*) Includes F3(5) A and B units.

Just exactly how much renumbering is going on remains a mystery. No additional renumbering reports of E-L units have reached us
since the last BLOCK LINE, so we can only assume the work has ground down. Perhaps no that Conrail has officially adopted a paint
scheme, they will start up again.

SCRANTON, SUSQUEHANNA DIVISIONS BITE THE DUST! Well, on paper, anyway, reports Bob Bahrs. Effective June 1, 1976, the following
sections of the Scranton Division were transferred to the Hoboken Division and classified as the Hoboken 2nd Subdivision:
Slateford Jct (MP 74.3) to BD Tower (MP 190.7)
Bangor & Portland Branch
Bloomsburg Branch
Effective on the same day, the following sections of the Susquehanna Division were transferred to the Hoboken Division and
classified as the Hoboken 3rd Subdivision:
Mill Rift (MP 91.2) to BD Tower (MP 218.2)
All other branches & industrial yard tracks

The original Conrail Hoboken Division (former EL N.Y. Division) becomes the First Subdivision. Dispatchers will control as of
February 24, 1974, so essentially it is just a paper change. perhaps to get more hours on less labor between crew changes?

REPORTS OF A FATALITY made at the last Chapter meeting were, thankfully, wrong. You'll remember the story: A young girl struck and
killed by an eastbound freight at Watching Ave, Montclair, May 13th. A 16 year old was injured, but not killed. The girl was walking
along the tracks and stumbled to the side as she heard the horn blow. Upon trying to get up, she struck her head on the fuel tank of
the passing lead unit.

F-UNIT STATUS AT SCRANTON. from Bob Bahrs, Bob Mazzarone and Rich Behrendt.
In service (5/23): 7102, 7112, 7113, 7114, 7121, 7122 (1 and 4 numbers are A's, 2 and 3 numbers are B's)
Stored: 7091, 7092, 7093, 7094, 7101, 7111, 7134, 6332, 6342, 6362, 6322, 6341
7000 class units are ex-Erie and have been at Scranton for some time. 6000 class units are ex-DL&W and apparently have been brought
in from Hornell, N.Y. Conrail has ordered all F's put back into service to help alleviate the current power crunch. Scranton shops
have been turning out about 2 units per week. Some require new wheels and bearings, others need only minor items like windshields
and batteries.

Also, the former LV Sayre wreck train, complete with big hook #96550, is now assigned to Scranton.

BALDWIN SLUGS # B-65 and B-66 are now both at Croxton. 66 was formerly stored in the roundhouse there, but has since been pulled out
into the open adjacent to the sanding tower. One end has been damaged, and the old girl has just about had it. 65, in better shape,
stands a few yards west (Rich Behrendt).

From ex-E-L:
Locomotives: 437, 438 (for switching service, Hoboken) [436 not 437]

(33 cars)
Of course, the 2700's are Stillwells, the rest are the trusty MU's!
