The BN/EL runthroughs ended in the late Spring of 1973.

Well, I have a Rich Campana shot (attached) that shows CB&Q (BN) GP40 #3012
leading EL U25B 2524 heading out of Croxton on NY-100 on 4/3/71. I can't
imagine this would also have been a mechanical problem, too (especially on
such a relatively new unit).

Also, the four-axles were not always in trios. I have in my collection
paired CB&Q 4-axle U-boats leading a freight west on the EL at Suffern.
