Thanks to Todd Hollritt for sending along this excellent shot that quite dramatically shows the changes at Great Notch today. NJT GP40-2 #4302 leads the wire train at the west end of the "New Yard" at 'NOTCH' Interlocking.

To give some perspective, the track at the far left is the current mainline of the Boonton Line (formerly the westbound main). The eastbound main would have been a little to the right of where the #4302 is. The former EL/Erie Great Notch "yard" used to be right about where Todd stood to take this photograph. The crossover track here allows westbounds to enter the new yard "stub" and back into the yard (it looks like it would also allow westbound to terminate at Great Notch station proper [about 500 feet west of here] and back down to the yard)

The catenary poles still blow my mind at this location! How things have changed! Though really, in early EL days, there was also talk of electrifying this line as well....
