List,

NJ Transit awarded a contract to Union Paving & Construction Co. for trackbed restoration
on the portion of the ex-cutoff between Port Morris and Lake Lackawanna, with a projected
completion date of June.

Today I was in the area, so I thought I'd try to find evidence that any work was underway. I couldn't
find any. But I did take some shots of two abandoned "structures" which still exist near
Brooklyn Stanhope Rd, which as has been previously noted now crosses the trackbed at grade.

The first photo is the old underpass, which was never filled in. The approach on this side wasn't too bad,

but the other side was difficult, downhill into a 90 degree turn. I remember one fatality in the early 70's

when an ice cream truck driver falled to make the curve.

The other photos are of an eastbound signal, which was positioned just off the west end of the

underpass. Just beyond this would have been the beginning of the third track into Port Morris.
