Two car trains were very common on all DL&W electrified lines. Attached is a
shot taken at Far Hills on Saturday June 4, 1960 (we were on our way to see
the L&HR Centennial Trains).

The MU trains I saw went in length from 2 to 14 (with the exception of a 3
car train). I only saw a 14 car train once and that was the day of many
extras for the Op-Sail extravaganza in 1976.

Trust me; two car MU trains were very common and Gary's memory of four cars
splitting at Summit is undoubtedly accurate.

I don't have a date - I didn't keep a log back then. I distinctly recall
riding a four-car train out of Hoboken and it split at Summit. I'd say it
was late on a Friday or Saturday night in the early 1980's.

It WAS unusual and I remarked to my wife about it.

We felt the motor car wind up and bump the trailer when leaving every
station stop, Summit and west to Denville.
