Subject: ELHS Western District Meeting Photos
"3-IMG_8389.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1024x684 (24bit)

A few photos from the Western District meeting that was held 5/14/2016 at
Marion (OH) Union Station. There is so much to see there, my compliments
to the volunteers for preserving so much of the history of interlockings &
towers on the railroad. The group had AC Tower open for tours which were
enjoyed by many. The meeting included a series of slide shows, a cook out,
and a session on upcoming ELHS activities by Chairman Michael Connor.
Kudos to Rich Behrendt for putting it all together.

Captions:

8436: During a break in the slide shows, a southbound CSX hopper train on
the former C&O bangs over the diamonds with the former Erie & Big Four
lines on the west side of the station as ELHS members look on.

8376: In this view taken from the outside stairs of the AC Tower, preserved
on the Station grounds, a southbound NS freight passes the ex EL Bay Window
caboose owned by the Museum.

8389: The EL caboose, and in the foreground the distinctive spindly metal
framework upon which AC Tower rests. I was told that this was a trait of
several of the Big Four towers.

8414: Chairman Connor addresses those in attendance.

8421: In a view taken from within the station, NS 9187 leads a coal train
north over the diamond at Marion with the restored AC Tower overlooking the
scene. The NS line (a former PRR line acquired in 1964 to allow N&W to
connect with the newly-acquired Nickel Plate Road, is the busiest of the
rail lines in Marion today.

8427: Group photo of former EL employees. Rich Behrendt will provide
caption info for this photo in the future.
