Subject: A Lackawanna dining car trivia question
"silver_condiment.jpg" - image/jpeg, 505x847 (24bit)

I recently picked up this neat silver salt and pepper and ? holder
recently. It is marked for the DL&W and was made in the early 1920's by
silversmith Reed & Barton. By the time the Lackawanna ordered silver in
1949 for the Phoebe Snow they only ordered salt and pepper shakers done in
silver (still later replaced by glass ones with silver caps). The 3rd
ingredient went away. The 3 shaker sets were common in the late 19th
century and early 20th century at most fine hotels and restaurants as well
as dining cars. It seems they disappear everywhere by the end of the
1940's. Reed & Barton does not list them in their 1950 catalog.

So now for your trivia question - what was the ingredient contained in that
3rd shaker?

No prize, but it makes you an honorary member of the EL Dining Car
Department.
