I presume someone has already noted that X0529 through X0531 are South
Orange, not East Orange (I'm on digest).

In X0529 and X0530, notice off in the distance how the retaining wall
curves away from the main tracks, this is to support a spur leading to a
coal trestle. While the trestle was removed many years ago, the abutment
at the east end of the trestle survived until just recently. It was
located behind the South Orange Ambulance Squad in a commuter parking lot.
That space has all been wiped out by a very large new "Transit Friendly"
development. And of course, I never took a photo of the abutment.

I've attached a 2004 aerial photo of the South Orange area. You'll need to
zoom in to see much. In this view, geographic North, and Railroad East,
are to the RIGHT. South Orange Station is at the top right. Notice the
angled (curved, actually) bridge over 3rd Street. The adjacent building to
the left of 3rd Street is the Ambulance Squad, and the thin white line
between the Ambulance building and the parking lot is the trestle abutment.

On the "other" side of the Morristown Line (railroad north) you can see the
additional bridge that carried DL&W freight tracks to another coal and
lumber facility in South Orange. As you can see this property had already
been redeveloped by 2004.
