Gary, Ken, and List,

Yes, Train 1026 did wait at Denville for connecting train 616. In the
attached photo, Train 1026 is shown on March 8, 1960. If you look VERY
closely, you can see the headlight of the electric.

Ken - you also mentioned Train 41. That was primarily a mail train that went
to Scranton.

Because it was two trains!
616 was a train from Dover via the Morristown Line, so passengers were
expected to change at Denville for Boonton Line train 1026, which would
originate there. Presumably 1026 would be waiting for them. Gary R. Kazin

Several trains connected at Mountain View with trains from
Wanaque-Midvale, and one train connected at Netcong with a train from
Newton. The timetable shows two numbers for these, one each for the
trains to Hoboken and one each for the connecting trains. However, the
last eastbound from Dover has two train numbers, 616 & 1026, but no
connecting trains are shown. Any thoughts on why the two train
numbers? All of the westbounds have one number each, except for the
trains that connected with Caldwell Branch or Wanaque-Midvale trains.
