Henry J. and List,

Regarding coal stove usage, I reviewed the list I have and of
the approximately 350 cabooses on it, 113 had oil stoves. This
ran across all classes of cabooses and did not show any
particular pattern (100 vs 300 series, wood vs steel, run thru vs
local, etc.) The 351 series is not on the list.

I have correspondence which shows problems with the fumes
from oil stoves (see attached letter Bison Yard Super E. Q.
Snyder). The N&W had numerous reports from employees being
overcome by fumes, and even some explosions.

The WNYRHS caboose # 210 came to us with an oil stove,
although this may have been added by Conrail. On my list
it is noted as a coal stove.
