Subject: Trucks for DL&W/Pullman 10-1-2 "Scenic" series
"Scenic_Falls_in_GMY.jpg" - image/jpeg, 48910 bytes, 1013x417 (256c)

Hi folks,

Some time ago I asked what might be the proper trucks for the HO Bachmann model of the DL&W/Pullman 10-1-2 sleeper. After some research, here is what I have discovered:

The only photo I have been able to uncover of the DL&W/Pullman "Scenic" series that shows the trucks is the one of "Scenic Falls" referenced by the URL. These trucks seem to be Pullman #242 which do not have drop equalizers (they are actually hidden). I think PSC may make a version of this truck, but I haven't been able to check out their catalog (it's on order). However, Bethlehem Car Works appears to make this truck - #198 at $23.95 a pair. The description, however, mentions a 7 foot wheel base which is strange. The specs on the Pullman #242 list the w/b at 11 feet.

According to the photo of the ex-Erie/Pullman "Scenic series in EL Color Guide (Morning Sun) page 16, the truck pictured seems to either the Pullman #2410-A or 2411. These trucks are closely represented by the PSC #33178. These are brass, beautifully made and cost around $25 a pair. Central Valley used to make a similar truck, but they are no longer available. These trucks have drop equalizers. The difference in the 2410-A and 2411 is 6 inches in the wheelbase.

There is pretty good listing of the various Pullman heavyweight 6-wheel trucks on page 33 of the Railway Prototype Cyclopedia, vol.2, though you have to search around for the reference photos.

If anyone out there can shed better light on this topic, please do!
