"A2_aerial_photo.jpg" - image/jpeg, 694761 bytes, 3072x2304 (24bit)

Attached are several photos from researching, walking and finally picking
some coal from the DL&W Winton Branch in Dunmore, PA. (From the looks of my
suitcase the TSA had a fun time with the anthracite on the flight back)

Attachment 1 - section of a 1930s era map from the Dunmore Gas and Water Co
showing the location of the Winton Br near the north end of the Erie Jessup
Viaduct (aka the 100-foot bridge). Route traced with a yellow line.

Attachment 2 - aerial photograph from November 2005 basically the same area
as the map.

Attachment 3 - Winton Br roadbed looking west
Attachment 4 - Winton Br roadbed looking east
Attachment 5 - likely(*) location of the start of the Winton Br at Nay Aug
(under the present I-380 bridges)

(*) I say likely because the road in the photograph is obviously used for
access to the tracks and connects to the old route 611 (Drinker Turnpike,
Rte 611, now Rte 435). In the area of the Erie viaduct the railroad beds
are 20 feet below Rte 611, so I'm guessing it wouldn't be too surprising if
611 used the Winton Br roadbed further to the east. Then again it was hot,
humid, and "buggy" so I didn't feel like walking down there to verify.
That's what those really cool aerial photographs are for!
