I posted this photo on the Erie-Lackawanna fb page, and it got over 200
comments and/or likes; so I thought that I'd share it with the EL Yahoo
List. Some of the comments were:

At least they used an EL E8

Chris Lantz From the
little bit of track I can see, it's was in good shape. Such a waste.

Brian Kincaid CS-9,
SC-10, TV-77 and IHB-7 were still using the Cutoff at this point I believe..

Stephen Tripptree Is
this the erie 833?

Steve Pellettiere
They did major track work on the line in the summer of 76 I believe only to
abandon it 2 years later... A bunch of PC men must have moved in and did the
dirty deeds.

Yea, but I think the decisions to pull the plug were finalized on this
train. Hassleman hated the EL because they stole the UPS business that PC
couldn't keep the penalty delivery schedules because PC's road bed was worse
than the EL's. Thus the birth of A-CX99, CX99, and PB100

David J. Monte Verde Richard
Hassleman was the Senior VP of Operations PC and then Conrail he despised
the EL. He scrapped the River Line Cut Off in Western NY; tore out Indiana
and Ohio EL; if it wasn't for NY State DOT the entire Southern Tier and the
Delaware Division would be gone or dead end shortlines; the Lackawanna
County RR Authority saved the Pocono Main with the help of former Governor
Casey; and the finale was slamming the door on the 2nd entrance into Jersey.
Imagine how the RR map today would look without the few saviors?

Brian Kincaid By the
way nice picture.... this Hassleman sounds like a real piece of work-even
the name-sounds like a rotten teacher from one of those 1980's teen movies
or a nasty member of Bushwood Country Club in Caddyshack.

Brian Kincaid I think
Crane also had the Pennsy out by New Portage/Muleshoe Curve torn out in the
early 1980s.
