Chris and all,
I don't know anything about the rail service, but there was also a
Borden's plant at Little Valley, NY that was served by rail. I lived there
'50's-'60's, but had no particular interest in the RR at that point!
I think the comment that milk "from as far west as Randolph" was sent to
NYC was made in "Men of Erie".
I've seen postcards on eBay showing the LV plant in an earlier name, and
have photos ca 1998 that I took for modeling guidelines. Their siding was
just east of the station, on the north side. Just west of the station , also
on the north side, was Cattaraugus Cutlery which also had a siding. I got an
photo of the cutlery from the County Museum, (early 50's air shot), and have
a few photo's of that from '98 as well.
About 1965 I took a photo of a friend up on the hill north of town. In
the background it included Little Valley station, the feed mill with a
boxcar spotted on the siding, the back of the cutlery complex, and some of
the town. Unfortunately, the Borden's plant is just out of the scene, to the
left.
The track was all pulled up a few years ago. The station was demolished
and a trail shelter constructed. The feed mill, cutlery, and milk plant were
still standing as of a couple of months ago --parts of the buildings have
had other uses, not sure if any still are occupied!
