Subject: Need Help Identifying Unkown Track Component
"DSC01035.gif" - image/gif, 489201 bytes, 1024x768+0+0 (256c)

I am sending in a picture of something that I found in an old ballast
pile along the rail trail between Chester, NY and Monroe, NY today.
What I was wondering is if someone might be able to tell me what the
heck it is and what it was used for? It is stamped with 112RE, and that
is its only identifying marking. I assume that the 112RE was a
designation that the component was used on 112-lb rail. It is about six
inches long and two inches thick. It looks to be a spring mechanism of
some sort, or a fastener.

I took pictures of other rail components, but those were mostly on the
old Lehigh & Hudson River RR trackage on the interchange Greycourt - so
I guess that they would still be EL-related. ;-) If anyone is
interested in them for modeling purposes, let me know and I will submit
them. I just took pictures of things like switch stands, grade crossing
construction technique, bridge abutments, rail details, etc.

And yes... After lurking on the list in Arizona, we are finally in the
process of moving home (for me) to New York, so I can lurk more local to
most of the rest of the list. Now, if I can only find a job... Anyone
looking for an experienced software developer? ;-)

Thanks in advance,

Joseph

p.s. Sorry for the blurry picture... Tomorrow, I will figure out how
to turn that #$@!*$# autofocus off and take a clean one if anyone needs
it. It works great outdoors, but isn't so hot indoors. ;-)
