Ed and List,

Going to Drew in the early 60’s, I spent a lot of time at the station so I knew I must have something showing the original fence.

Attached are two shots from March 25, 1961. The baggage cart crossing appears here as well. This was still in use back then and I think that use was related to the MU RPO cars.

I might be wrong but I believe the original fence survives at the Short Hills station. Can someone confirm or refute this?

Dan

I was visiting NJ last week. These are a few of the pictures I took. I
have ridden on the M&E through Madison but never saw the building in
person. I wished I could have arrived an hour earlier. The agent was gone
and had locked up the station by 2:30. These are a few of the pictures I
shot. I was surprised to see that the fence is sort of a copy of
Lackawanna's picket iron fence used all over the company. Not sure why
they would take that out in the first place. They left the image of the
gate fence in place illustrating where express could be carted across the
track for w/bound trains. The Madison station still has the original
Lackawanna style light brackets on the station. I've wondered what NJT did
with all those brackets. I've looked for one for years and have not found
one. Tony Citro had a lot of them at "Citro's 1900" in Wayne. Later that
afternoon I went looking for the remains of the Lackawanna fence that shows
up so often in Richard McKinght's posts. I found a section along Bellows
Ln in Towaco.
