Since yesterday's post took a ridiculous amount of time, I'm going to be
more selective with my comments.

9/12/72 was a Tuesday, so the TOFC hotshots are back.

Here comes the WB parade:

TC-99: Dp HF 20" AOS. Less loads than usual due to weekend connection from
Maine (Dp Mechanicville Monday afternoon) so we have a light train with a
pair of E units.

Cbw: "CannonBall West", aka SLCB, the St Louis Cannonball, TOFC/carload
runthru with N&W via Huntington. 4 hpt has helped put it a full 2 hrs AOS.
Light 17 loads on a 1200 mile itinerary. It's beginning to show the
diversion of traffic to PC due to its aggressive multi-trailer pricing on
the forwarder traffic that was a significant portion of SLCB traffic, and
resulting lack of profitability will result in discontinuance of the CB's in
8 months.

SC-99: running well AOS and will run through to GN today, unlike yesterday
when it terminated at HF. Will p/u for GN at SB, which is where, Steve?

NY-99: Nearly 2 hr AOS. Ends a 4 train WB rush in under 3 hours

PB-99: Arrives HF also 2 hr AOS with lone SD45, but short train still gets
1.8hpt. Scheduled 1 hr layover for work (s/o 3 GN, p/u 2 CO), and in this
case, an engine change.

NY-97: cod V 1200 means it's at least 1 hr AOS, thanks to 2.5 hpt. Has been
micro-blocked at CX and then Ford loads added at Hillburn yard in Suffern.
Most of Mahwah's production goes to GN for interchange to N&W (Southeast)
and L&N at Cincinnati. So we have 36 GN (probably 15-20 racks), 1 J (perhaps
MT Seatrain COFC headed for the Sealtest plant in Dayton NY; J yard engine
to switch it out from the rear), 10 Chicago, 1 Mansfield, 2 Akron, 3
Cleveland, probably forwarder cars. Here's that "bust" word again; in this
case, refers to cancelling the E unit refuel at UK due to the presence of
personnel from NY DOT. Steve, why would that prevent the refuel? This means
the small-tank E will go offline before HF, correct?

CX-99: 1hr AOS at V with 3 SD's and 61 cars. The fall rush has begun, and
since it's difficult to maintain schedule with >60 cars, we will soon see
the A/CX-99 start showing up.

BM-9: Appears to have been preblocked at Bison with 0/3 for BRC, 24/16 RN
and 15/29 Lima and via (incl N&W and DT&I interchange). The blocking
instructions say this is a "switch" (reclassify) train at HF, but today, "no
work, no fuel". Steve has mentioned in the past that Bison classification
was a sore point with yard crews at HF, which had previously done most of
the classification work for the Niagara region; Steve, would you like to
expand on that a little?

SCX: will be made up at UK. It appears departure is delayed because the
power took extra time making up the RY (Brockway) turn which includes P&S
interchange. Comment, Steve?

HF-98: LD local, HF-PO, apparently this crew (and power?) also worked the
Cattaraugus (Dayton Br) Turn out of UK. Didn't realize these road crews also
worked the branchlines when needed.

TC-100: Is allowed 90" at HF for adding to blocks but apparently not today.
My guess is that since it's behind schedule, its work will be done by
following PO-98 so it won't miss per diem on delivery to D&H, scheduled for
2230.

PB/NY-100: Not infrequent for customarily short trains to be combined with
longer symbols running close to their schedule. NY-100 is running 50" late
due to handling PB's traffic, including the Akron s/o, and will incur
further delay setting off PB cars at Bingo. However in the process of
reducing cost, service is degraded and the Boston pigs will miss
second-morning grounding due to a several hour delay (PB due out of HF at
1215).

PO-98: 2 engines dit for V shops, will p/u TC-100's 2 D&H cars, and Po's
will be added to rear.

RC-98: Appears as BR-100 in schedule

SFE-100/CBE: An unusual combo, when NYCB combined it was usually with 2/100.
SFE-100 and NYCB ran close together so it's a logical combination. Probably
no work at HF, and is very short for a combined train with 1B&M, 1 Bingo and
53 PO. Large-tank SD's means no refuel

2/NY-100: Right on his heels and 1 hour AOS is the UPS train with another
pair of SDP45's.

PN-98: OT

That'll be a lot to digest once Steve adds his comments, and that's it from
me til Wednesday, my next day off.
