A few notes on the newly-announced Tangent gons (listed below):

* All the EL "Gothic Marks" scheme cars I've ever seen photos of have rib-stiffeners applied to every other rib. Apparently, one of the faults of the ACF cars were that the ribs would slowly deform over time as loads were dropped in. The solution? Flanges were bolted onto alternate ribs to stiffen them. The EL appeared to apply these to this series of cars (as did the PRR to theirs). Out of the box, the Tangent cars are VERY VERY NICE. But if you want to make them absolutely perfect, a little modeling is in order. There was an excellent article on how to do this in an issue of "The Keystone Modeler" (an e-publication of the PRRT&HS) on a Tangent gon - you can order a DVD of it from their website.

* The EL rail train cars are exactly right. For some odd reason, the EL didn't add stiffeners. BUT: The EL cars *did* have rail racks installed, which can be fairly easily scratchbuilt. Mike Oravec posted photos of them several years ago here, but with this announcement here, I'll repost them for the lists' benefit...
