Listers:

I was on my way back from Rochester, NY on 7/4 and came across the Ohio
Valley Railcar excursion on WNYP around 2:00 ish in Wellsville, NY. I've
attached a few photos for your enjoyment taken in Wellsville, Andover and
at Tip Top.

My only regret is that I didn't get any of the cars at Andover pond. As I
drove by I realized I had missed the opportunity. A great location with a
view looking down from a side of a hill. View looking onto the Andover
pond with the tracks splitting it in a classic 's' pattern. I believe
there is a picture from this perspective in DeYoung's EL Vol. #2, EL in
NYS.

I think I have 2, maybe 3 photos of list member Steve Timko in his car. I
also believe his has the WNYP logo on it. He was in the lead, 'blazing the
trail'. I was also impressed at seeing these cars accelerate to, and
maintain track speed, of 40 mph. They were moving right along.

I would guess there was around 35 or so.

I hope you all enjoy them.

1.) Wells Rite Aid shows the end of the caravan at State St. in Wellsville.
This gave them a convenient area to de-car and obtain fuel, food, etc.
Note the WNYP hi-rail bringing up the rear.
2.) State St. at Rite Aid. Close up of 3 cars at site in # 1.
3.) Kibitzing at State St. Looking more or less south (rr east) with
roughly the complement of cars from the first view. Note the telltale Erie
GYR over RY signal. The former siding in Wellsville began just before
State St. here and continued north through the village to approx. Coates
St. This was torn out after Hurricane Agnes.
4.) State St. at Sunoco shows a portion of the front of the caravan.
5.) One car was restored as Erie 811. Here is a picture at State St. Does
anyone know if it was originally an Erie car and if so, numbered as 811.
6.) SMT Truax Rd. is, I believe, Steve Timko in his car on the outskirts of
Wellsville heading east towards Andover.
7.) Reading 3307, also at Truax Rd. Does anyone know if this is an
accurate rep of a Reading Car? Or just one done in its colors?
8.) Santa Fe 501 is again at Truax Rd. Again as with the Reading car, is
it accurate as to the prototype car?
9.) Erie 811 Truax Rd.
10.) # 303 Truax Rd.
11.) # 2 Truax Rd.
12.) WM #340 at Truax Rd.
13.) Erie 811 at Andover NY, just west of the pond.
14.) WNYP SMT. Steve Timko's car, just west of Tip Top (a few hundred
yards or so).
15.) Erie 811 at Tip Top. One of the landmarks on the former Erie.
Unfortunately, at this time of year, the concrete base of the former water
tower is obscured by the abundant foliage. Just 2 months ago, you could
see if from the road.
16.) 2 at Tip Top. 2 cars heading out of view at Tip Top.
17.)

Regards,

Chris
