Subject: EL SDP45 #3637 wreck
"CrippleTrain.jpg" - image/jpeg, 693x674 (24bit)

Matt (and list)...

I was able to locate an old snapshot that I have of the movement of the crippled locomotives from the Delaware Water Gap wreck. Imagine my surprise when this stuff came along instead of the usual EL freight. I had no idea that the wreck had happened. We just happened to be visiting Grandma that weekend.

You can clearly make out the shape of the first burned out hulk, which was the CNJ SD40. The second unit, which was the #3637, looks much more badly damaged. No wonder the N&W cut it down to a road slug. As I understand it, the EL had plans to rebuild the SD40 that never materialized in the final six months before Conrail. Was this a case of "you break it, you buy it?"
