Thursday, Sept 28, and we're seeing the traffic build as the week
progresses. A few question marks today.

WB Fleet:

BM-7: 3rd day in a row via NT; perhaps there was a major derailment on the
B&SW as Steve mentioned. Despite what appears to be OT Dp BX, crew is
outlawed at UK, so there must have been a problem on the Buffalo Div'n.
Combined with SCX and est arr HF 7 hrs late at 1630. Missed CO TOFC conn
with NY-99 but should make A/CX-99 protecting 2nd morning arrival. Crew will
taxi to HF.

NE-97: Yesterday's train is 6 hr late at HF, but was supposed to have BN
power at PO; I'm guessing that was an error since no BN's to be seen.
Probably delayed waiting on a late PC connection at XC (no surprise there).
Was going to Dp PO about 3 hr late (cod 1615) but was either later than that
or lost more time along the way. As the saying goes, late trains tend to get
later. Looks like it didn't p/u the 36 GN cars at UK, may have been p/u by
TC-99 instead.

TC-99: Right behind with 130 cars, longest TC-99 I've seen so I'm guessing
p/u the 36 at UK. 50" AOS so has some time to play with.

SC-99: About 30" late Dp HF and to p/u 10 cars at XN (Shenango) off the
B&LE, including rush car for Cudahy in WI. Cudahy is a meat packer, and BLE
19240 is a 51' gon. May have equipment for the plant, possibly from GE at
Erie.

SLCB: Dp HF 30" late with customary pair of four-motor units.

NY-99: OT with big train. No doubt did the 5" topoff at UK.

A/CX-99: 10" AOS at V. I actually have the consist for this train at GN with
48-1-49 3496T; 27-1 TOFC from CX inc 31 UPS vans, 15-0-15 TOFC from Boston
(PB-99) and 6 more TOFC added at QD. The numbers indicate it did not p/u at
HF, or there was an error.

CX-99: 50" AOS at V with pr of SDP45's

NY-97 (bottom of pg): about 90" late at V due to big train and underpowered
at 1.3 hpt. 5Jamestowns and 4 CD pigs will be taken off the rear at HF.
Comment that the train consist was wrong and verified at Elmira.

PO-87: already called at 1530 at QD; likely no work at JN today.

NE-97: today's edition will Dp PO approx. 2 hr late; habitually late I'm
guessing due to late PC connection that must be classified.

BM-9: at least 5hr late Dp BX due to expiry of crew rest time. As Steve
explained previously, BM-9 is crewed off RC-98 which does a quick trip via
B&SW. If It had to go via NT it would be a much later arrival at BX, hence
later Dp for BM-9.

EB Fleet:

PO-98: Has a QD block today

PB-100: Dp HF 1:25 AOS with very small train, under 1000T and single SD. PC
is eating their lunch with multi-trailer discounts.

RDG-98: Here's a symbol from the past. RDG-98 operated from GA to the
traditional RDG connection at Newberry Jct. The train was discontinued in
1967 when the RDG interchange was shifted to Rupert PA on the Bloom, and new
schedule PN-98 to SC handled RDG and CNJ interchange. This was done both to
eliminate haulage payments to NYC and give EL a longer haul. With 91
empties, most for RDG, I'm guessing this is primarily an empty hopper train,
returning from taking a unit train of import coke through either Port
Reading NJ or Port of Philadelphia. An RA fill was added at presumably GN.
Boomer SD45 and looks like the 2502 will come off at V for wheel work.

MF-74: running about 13 hr late at HF. Power goes to RC-98. See Steve's
comment on disposition of 74.

NY-100: about 3 hr late at JO, 7 off 4 on and no refuel due to SDP's. So
late may skip topoff at UK. Today's p/u includes XTTX 155778 (typewriter
hiccup added a digit), was b/o off last night's 2/NY-100. The "X" prefix was
applied to cars with 4 hitches, enabling loading of 3 pups, in addition to
the standard pair of 40's. XTTX included a number of F89F cars, like this
one, 35 G89 cars, and 220 BSF11X flush-decks. I have a photo of XTTX 154093
loaded with 3 20' COC. It looks very cool, and now I wish I'd bought one
when athearn offered it. As an aside, in '75 there was a b/o s/o at RA by
A/CX-99; it was repaired in time to be p/u by following CX-99 2.5 hr later!
EL pulled out all the stops to ensure the parcels made service. 7 TOFC s/o
is substantial; forwarding connections were RC-98 and PN-98. p/u is off CM-2
from CD.

NYCB: right behind 100, 90" AOS at JO

SFE-100: 90" late at KE, no ID crew today. Has p/u Mahwah hy-cubes at AK and
to add PO/NY

2/NY-100: about 1 hr AOS at KE, will skip HF refuel but topoff at UK.

PN-98: Dp HF 25" late.

First comments on Paul's thoughts---

BM-7--yes, something happened along the way. The run from Buffalo to
Meadville was a long one--about 225 miles +/-. Any significant delay could
sink the train. To outlaw at UK means there was quite a delay somewhere.
You'll recall yesterday's mention of a brush spray train on the River Line
today--that may have added to it. Crew will taxi in combined service to
Meadville, their final terminal.

SC-99--hot car could have been a compressor or other machinery out of
Cooper-Bessemer at Grove City also.

NY-97--train consist verified by RA--Elmira --probably operator at FS Tower.

MF-74 will probably die at HF. Crews out of sync due to some problems on
B&SW and BX Divn. Inbound train will switch and cars to next RC98 and MF74
and probably also HF98.

NY-100--will certainly top off at UK, especially since no fuel at HF. (It
wasn't a published fact, but nearly every train that originated or
terminated WEST of HF, fueled at UK.)

Comments on Jim's turnover---

2345 Randall turn has 22 CWKS and 48 Neville Island. Small train but crew
ran out of time and BR Yard crew to deliver to P&LE. Power goes to a BR STA
to get 121 FA ore off of B&O at NK. Unusual move like I stated yesterday.
Not a regular move.

0500 Randall Turn moved hoppers west, back with 100 WA Ore. Power will
reorder and run on another Randall Turn with mtys and return with 55 WA ore
to clean up the ore situation.

Steamer Lawson due Friday at the River Terminal Dock. Ore to come to EL via
Newburg Yard (RT-N&SS-EL)

Cleve crew running from Avenue to Warren with 51 ore from Randall EB Siding
and another track (probably 50 or 55 more). Then goes to Mosier Yard
(Girard) for a track of hoppers for Randall or Cleveland.

Noon Drag up to move two cuts of ore---two trips- to North Randall. Then
done.

Ore traffic is intense and will continue to be intense until season ends
around Thanksgiving. Mills have been taking ore and needing ore (recall
last few days of needing ore at CWKS) so probably not much getting stocked
for winter.

XN Turn to run---notice the nightly coke traffic for the Ohio Works from
Clairton Coke Works. Routed: URR-B&LE-EL-Y&N Dely.

MC-1 gets 3313 from DO shop. You'll recall this is the unit that was in the
first derailment at Columbus Road and had damaged brake system. Repaired at
Brier Hill and unit working back toward Cleveland.

Down to the wire on the Greenville Switch engine--due at Marion tonight at
midnight.

Things seem to be running pretty smooth considering previous problems on the
B&SW (whatever they were) and the derailments in Cleveland. Thursday's are
traditionally the busiest day of the week.
