Subject: (erielack) Baby SD40 (was Elmira 1939)

Actually, this parade loco and cars were built by the Illinois Central
in their Memphis shops in 1995 to publicize 'operation lifesaver'. The
attached scan is of an IC publicity card giving some history of the
loco, known as 'Little Obie'. Shortly after the CN bought IC in 1998 it
was repainted to CN colors (much like EL equipment was repainted to
Conrail -- required EL content).

My modular HO club in Bolingbrook IL used to get this for our annual
village parade (since one of our members works for CN/IC and drives the
thing), and march in the parade with it. The horn really wakes up the
crowd.

There's pride on this side of the border too!
