Mike,

Here are some photos of the interior of the car that you requested. The car is parked in Jamesville at the old Alpha Cement Plant. It was used to haul limestone from the Jamesville Quarry to the Allied Chemical Solvay Process plant in Solvay, NY in its day.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the photo of this car.

Yes, it was born a DL&W car, one of an usual class of offset-side hoppers.

The car in your photo has been rebuilt and modified. The original slope sheets joined that end plate, and there were fewer splice plates. I'd love to see a picture of the interior of that car. That altered slope sheet would suggest service other than coal, becuase of that increased angle, likely a smaller stone like aggregate. Smaller particles require a steeper slope.

Is there something that makes you think this car is heading toward the scrapper's torch? There have been entities interested in this car if the CNY Chapter is willing to part with it. The CNY Chapter is willing to part with at last one of Lackawanna E8s.

Restored offset steam-era hoppers are rare -- I'm pretty aware of what's out there and haven't learned of any of this class that have been restored.

I have photos of these in service on the DL&W and can send you some roster info next time I get any computer time at home.
