A plan to rescue Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg and move it across the tracks first got a tepid response from members of the group Save Dansbury Depot.
The Eastburg Community Alliance, a nonprofit organization for the revitalization of downtown, was granted permission to lease borough-owned property on or near Miller Park to be used as space for the former train station.

Developer Troy Nauman will move the historic part of the depot across the tracks. Once moved, the EAC would spearhead community involvement in bringing the depot back to life.
"We see it as a win/win. Preservation and progress do not have to be mutually exclusive," said Cheryl Hayne, ECA downtown manager.
The deal is contingent on funding that is not all aboard yet, although some private donors have expressed an interest, according to borough council.
The move is estimated to cost between $300,000 and $400,000 and another $800,000 or more will be needed to restore the building.
The Civil War-era depot, most recently a restaurant, was damaged in a fire last October, and Nauman has begun demolishing the more-recent parts of the building. He plans a three- or four-story commerical-residential structure at the site.

Members of the group Save Dansbury Depot stressed several times that their grassroots efforts made a difference, and they applauded themselves a few times. The group wanted to ensure that it would have a voice in the use of the building.
"We're inviting everyone to the table — with their checkbooks," said Hayne, reminding group members that more money must be raised to make the restoration happen.
After 90 minutes of discussion and many questions, the public applauded when borough council approved the land lease.
But council warned that without funding, it won't happen. The council will also work toward extending the C-1 commercial district to the new depot site.
