Here is the next in a series of pictures that we took while visiting the southern tier of New
York. Since the Erie and DL&W no longer exist, all we could do is take pictures of the
remaining infrastructure. Some of it is still in use, some not.

In 1933-34, both the Erie and the DL&W decided to elevate their tracks through Elmira to reduce
the number of at-grade crossings. This series of shots is a DL&W overpass on the east side of
Elmira (specifically - Sullivan Street). The overpass was roughly at a 45 degree angle to the
street and has three sets of four columns holding it up.

dlw01.jpg - this wide-angle shot looks south toward the overpass.
dwl02.jpg - this shot shows the detail of the railing at the top of the overpass.
dwl03.jpg - this shot also shows the detail of the columns holding up the overpass.
dwl04.jpg - this is another shot of the railing and column detail.
dwl05.jpg - this shot was supposed to show the arrangement of the columns but came out a little
dark
dwl06.jpg - this shot shows the detail of the top of the columns - you can still see the
imprint of the forms holding the poured concrete when it hardened.

More to come...
