Subject: How I Spent My Summer Vacation - Reprise 1
"roch02.jpg" - image/jpeg, 57840 bytes, 863x562 (24bit)

As promised, here is the first in a series of pictures that we took while visiting the southern
tier or New York. Since the Erie and DL&W no longer exist, all we could do is take pictures of
the remaining infrastructure. Some of it is still in use, some not.
roch01.jpeg - this picture was inspired by the picture at the top of page 80 of Erie Railroad
in Color. This shows the Erie Rochester branch row going down the middle of Chemung St in
Painted Post. This view is looking west from the intersection of Chemung St and Steuben St.
One block farther west and the row runs parallel to Chemung St which becomes a one-way street
at that point.
roch02.jpeg - this picture is from the same spot looking east toward the former Ingersoll-Rand
plant (where the first diesel-electric motors were built). Note that if I had taken the first
picture (roch01.jpeg) from the corner opposite the one occupied by the bike rider, I would have
had the same angle as the picture in Erie Railroad in Color.

More to come...
