Subject: Amazing Hoboken aerial!
"MSG.jpg" - image/jpeg, 224252 bytes, 945x741 (256c)

Thanks to list member Rich Wisneski for forwarding this amazing picture from his collection. Rich's comments follow:

This is an aerial view of the Hoboken Terminal and DLW Jersey
City Freight Yard area. I believe it was taken in the late 1970's (ie. post
Conrail). Perhaps is someone has Bill Sheppard's "Tidewater Terminals" book
handy, they could identify the piers that are visible. It appears that almost
all of the tracks in freight yard have been removed. In the background the
Erie trackage to the watefront is visible, and it looks as if new autos are
still parked in the "F.J. Boutell" auto unloading area, but no evidence of auto
racks. Looking just beyond the Long Slip, I think those are Jersey Arrow cars
stored awaiting the re-electrification of the M&E. I'm sure others will pick
out other interesting details.
