The two railroads could have built two temporary crossovers between the two
lines at Atlanta and Bath? Remember this is the 20's not 2011-complete with
EPA and slower workers-it could have been affected in a few hours. However I
find it hard to imagine the Lackawanna's 10-12 passenger trains, scheduled
manifests, and coal extras, along with the Erie's own traffic, fitting over
the non-signaled single track Erie?? As my 1950's memory serves me, other
than the Erie/DL&W diamond at Erwins-complete with an interchange track-see
attached photo of an Erie westbound local banging the diamond, I don't
think the DL and the Erie (Rochester Div) connected at all, except for both
railroads serving the Larrow Mills buckwheat plant in Cohocton, and an old
connection between Wayland Tank and the Erie in downtown Wayland-severed by
the Wayland Terminal RR. I don't think they even connected at Bath? After
the merger they built crossovers all over the place as the Erie was mostly
abandoned. The Erwins diamond was removed (after the demise of the passenger
trains), a trailing point westbound crossover to the Erie was established at
Campbell to serve the Pollio milk-butter plant on the Erie, a connection at
Savona, a switch to the Erie trackage through Bath, a Kannona connection to
pick up the K&P interchange, and I even think there was a connection at
Atlanta to serve a potato warehouse/plant, and a new connection at Wayland
Junction to server the Erie trackage in downtown Wayland
