I am woefully ignorant about Lima. Despite living about 90 miles from there
for several years I never managed to get down to Lima so Eric's aerial
prompted me to dig out the Sanborns and a USGS map of the area to study a bit.

I slapped together a quick Sanborn composite of the junction area that is
attached. There is no date on the page, but the Lima set contains pages
originally drawn in 1911 and updated to 1941.

This area just reeks with RR history. In Eric's aerial, we're looking roughly
south-southwest down the old N&W/NKP/LE&W. The B&O/CHD runs out of the picture
to the left and between them was the Lima Locomotive Works, which is pretty
much completely gone today. Immediately above the CSX power on the grain train
was the NKP 21 stall roundhouse and shop complex. Up until a few years ago the
turntable was still there and you could see the outline of the roundhouse in
aerial photos, but it was all plowed under some time between 2007 and 2009.

The old Erie depot (C&E) was located roughly between the two white buildings
and the grain train in Eric's photo. The train is coming off of what became
the Spencerville & Elgin after CR shed the west end.

Thanks for posting this Eric, we desperately need more west end content on the
list!
