On my way back to Buffalo yesterday I poked around Kent, Ohio with a friend to
see what was left.

There is a surprising amount of track still in the area, but it isn't used
very often and I am afraid some isn't used at all.

There's only one track through the area of the yard which is apparently used
to infrequently service an adjacent business with tank cars. There's also a
riveted Union Tank Car Co single dome tank at the end of their siding, ULTX
17360. Their siding runs through the old "K.E. Repair Yard" on the south side
of the yard. The Yard Office foundation is intact, it looks like you could
build on it. The five track bridge over the B&O is still there, I shot EB CSX
Q276-07 from the north side of it. The two 100ft light towers are still
standing.

The station was a more pleasant surprise as it is in nice shape and used as a
Pufferbelly's restaurant. There are still two tracks there and a third stub
for a passenger car.

Attached is 4 views of the station and three passenger cars on the track side.
Two were lettered NKP and one Erie. I was told they are owned by the W&LE
which operates on this portion of the line when there is actually something
to do. The orange goo on the Erie car in one of the shots is some sort of
expanding foam which appears to have leaked through from the inside.

West of the station less than half a mile away is an interesting building
which was part of the fairly large Kent Shops complex. It also looks like it
is in good shape and well cared for. That's the 5th photo.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of the old Erie/EL around Kent. Even
though the B&O line sees all the traffic, the Erie left its mark on Kent and
it still shows.
