Attached is a screen grab of a recent auction showing a wreck on the
Lackawanna that's labeled as East Stroudsburg, Pa. The date of the wreck
was April 27, 1947, and the story is that a load of pipe shifted on the
curve, derailing the car carrying the pipes and nine others. There were no
injuries, and trains had to be detoured.

Does anyone have any info on this wreck? Is anyone sure which curve this
is? From the sun angle I'm guessing it's the one just railroad east from
today's I-80 bridge, the first curve east of East Stroudsburg. The bare
hillside still carries a power distribution line today.

In this photo, note the Pocono on the work train. Among the wreckage is one
of Lackawanna's steel autocar rebuilds, the only DL&W boxcars with double
doors. The single car on Track 1 appears to have the distinctive ends of
one of DL&W's 36-foot wooden boxcars, similar to the one at Steamtown today.

Curious. This is a wreck I hadn't heard of before seeing the picture.
