Michael & List,

Here is the full set of eight shots I took at Greendell back on Feb 26,
1977.

In EL days, I only saw Greendell from the train, the Phoebe Snow on several
occasions plus a few fantrips. I did not actually journey to Greendell
until the dreary days of Conrail.

But I heard about Greendell often in EL days as I was a frequent visiter to
Denville Tower and would hear of the meets at Greendell. This was good
information if you were hoping to see a given freight. For example, when
BH-8 was on the move, if you heard that it was to meet #5 at Greendell, then
you would be pretty sure of seeing the freight at a reasonable hour at
Denville.

The pictures include the kids that engaged me in some conversation and the
shot they took of me sitting on the platform waiting for the train of the
day. You will note that the sun was out nicely until the train arrived!

Dan,
Any more shots from that day you could share?

Weren't the cars for Greendell placed in front of the engines at Port
Morris? Does anyone have a pic of one of these moves? If so, I'd love to see
em.

Back when it became clear that Conrail did not have anything good in mind
for the Cutoff, I spent the better part of a day at Greendell. I knew a
freight was scheduled (CS9 I suppose) and got there early prepared to wait.
And wait I did. In the meantime I chatted with some kids who found it
amusing that somebody was prepared to wait so long for the train of the day,
and also took a few shots. One of them was of the team track which on this
day (Feb 26, 1977) had two boxcars, one of which was in the process of being
unloaded.

The freight finally did show up with a grungy Penn Central unit in the lead.
While I am glad to have the shot of the train, I dearly wish I had taken
more of the scene on the siding.
