The BCK/Erie connection at JU was abandoned in 1950? I didn't know that.
Unfortunately the Erie County 1951 aerial photo isn't quite detailed enough
to see if the rails were gone.

The NKP (and PM/C&O, the Van's Alleghany Corp roads) shared space at the
Erie's Louisiana Street freight house. Does anyone know how long this
arrangement lasted? I have a photo that shows a "CHESAPEAKE AND OHIO" sign
mounted on the roof of the Erie freight house. It was fairly large and looks
like it was lit up at night. I have attached the photo from the collection of
Bud Laws, photographer and date unknown, with permission. He had no idea where
the photo was taken and I had managed to figure it out from clues in the
photo and the help of some Sanborn maps. My best guess is the photo was taken
some time in the fall in the early 1950s. C&O absorbed PM in 1947 and NYC
steam was gone from Buffalo in 1956 so it should have been taken in that nine
year time frame. Could the C&O sign have pre-dated the C&O/PM merger?

Does anyone know when the NKP connection to the Erie downtown main (the
southwest leg of the wye at JU) was taken out of service? Even though I spent
some time in that area around 1976, I can't remember if it was still there or
not. I know the connection on the other leg of the wye from the N&W/NKP to SK
yard was still there as it was still used regularly and even though P&B and FW
are long gone today, its equivalent is still used. The old connection
alignment is still visible in in Google Earth aerials, but the NKP downtown
connection has been thoroughly eradicated. The alignment for the NKP downtown
connection was still visible in a 1978 aerial, but overgrown enough so that it
would appeatr that it had been gone for many years.

I'm not familiar with the equity arrangement of P&B, was it jointly owned by
BCK, NKP and Erie? Did PRR have any ownership?

If NKP didn't use JU to get to Erie's passenger terminal, how else could they
have gotten there? I wonder if they used one leg of the JU wye to back in and
the other to head outbound loco first.
