Welcome to North Jersey and home rails, Lackawanna 1074. You got a great reception, and you are the first of the Heritage fleet to be mated to an authentic namesake caboose. The 1074 arrived at Chester Junction about 2:30 p.m. under crystal clear blue skies, where NJTransit checked its height and width. It trundled down the hill to Dover where it tied up with our Lackawanna caboose 896. Plans are for the H-02 to deliver the 1074 to Boonton during the day tomorrow. It may have to be a straight shot without stops, so the photo opportunities may not be as numerous as we thought. But tomorrow will be what tomorrow will be. Have fun with it.
It arrived Netcong about 2:15 or so. We could hear the horns for several minutes as it approached. They sounded terrific, a chime reminiscent of a steam whistle from a distance. Soon 1074 was upon us and making track speed, blowing past and carrying dust and dry leaves in the wake of the nine trailing freight cars, six of which for the Morristown & Erie. It was as good a first look at a heritage unit as I could ask for, passing a classic Lackawanna station at speed, working hard but hardly winded.

The Rockaway River Bridge at Chester Junction is always one of my favorite spots.
