>Also, where in the scope of this photo was the Winton Branch? Directly in front of and below the photographer?

For the photo on page 17, Ed Zech would be standing about half a mile down the Erie Wyoming Div tracks towards Elmhurst from the photo on page 19. The E&WV who built that line cut a shelf into the mountain side for yard tracks.

The DL&W Winton Br would be off the photo on page 17 to the right, at the exact same elevation as the Erie Jessup Br. It gained that elevation in the two miles or so it paralleled the main from Nay Aug. The attached (very long) map should explain. Nay Aug will be to the right and the viaduct to the left.

>So here's another question: The branch was last used in 1977, correct? I'm surprised to see a train as long as this one so late in the game. Did the industrial park get served via a different rail route, or moved just to trucks?

A few years longer... By 1976, all that remained of the Erie Jessup Br and viaduct was called Conrail's 2.7 mile Keystone Industrial Park spur. It was sold to the Pocono Northeast Railway in 1983, but only lasted 2 years. Hurricane Gloria in 1895 washed out large sections of the former Erie Wyoming div between Rock Jct and Scranton, making it impossible to get to this location. Hence the stories about the stranded box cars at Gould Battery plant and some discussions about relaying track on the DL&W Winton from Nay Aug to reconnect the park.

But that never happened. The Pocono Northeast went bankrupt/ceased operations in 1993 and although there are still some disconnected rails in the park, after 1985 it was service by truck.
